Archaeology

This afternoon Mum and I went for a dig with two spades and my metal detector. We also took Byron.

We went to round the forest and were out 3 hours.

We found a tree that had been uprooted but is still alive.

We also found the ruins of a house which I searched for old things.

I did not find any coins but I found some metal, chalk, slate and interesting rocks. I bought them home in my washing tablet box which has a face inside ( I stuck it on to scare Mum!).

Father's Day

Dad has two breakfasts today as it's Father's day.

The first one was in bed. The second one was at Hilliers Garden Centre with Grandpa, Auntie Paul and everyone else who isn't a Father!

La Petit Poule Rousse

Cosi and I were in the Copthorne Pre-Prep French play today "Le Petit Poule Rousse". I was a narrator/farmer. Cosi played a piece of Wheat...

They Are Golden

When I got back from Sayer's Croft the family (except Uncle Zal whose off spying or something cool) were at aunty Moo's House. They were having a party for Grandma and Grandpa's Golden Wedding Anniversary. That means they've been married for 50 years! That is MAD!

Sayers Croft

Went to Sayers Croft at the weekend with School...

We went to Uncle Zal's house for breakfast donuts because he is going away for 100 days to Indonesia for his work.

He has broken his foot and has to wear a big boot because he can't put a shoe on it.

Last stop

YouTube Video

This is where we went on our way home. But as it was very windy here are the subtitles:

Me:
Hi we're at Stonehenge. We had to drive miles to get here.

Dad:
We'd better go before the Pandorica opens.

An Englishman's home is his castle

We had a big big clean up this morning because we were leaving Grandad and Bernadette's house.

YouTube Video

Then we got into the car. We drove to Castle Drogo in Devon. It was the last castle built in England and is the same age as our house.

We had lunch and went inside the castle. We had to do some quizzes. There were lots of cool things inside the castle including this old football table.

Outside we saw a croquet lawn and a flower garden.

BBQ

It is our last night and we are having a BBQ in Grandad's garden. I an eating veggie burgers. We are playing boule and badminton too.

Victorian Times

We went to Mowellham Quay today. It was a place where you could see things from the olden days and people were dressed up. It used to be a Victorian mining town.

Kids from 8 and older needed to work in the mine but girls worked on top of the mine sorting out the rocks.

First we went on a train into the mine. It was incredibly dark. We learnt about the different ways to collect copper. it was very dangerous.

The mine stopped because people found mines in other countries and more copper came from places like Australia. When Mowellham stopped mining copper they started to produce arsenic. It is very dangerous and it was used for things like killing insects on crops to stop them eating them.

We made some ropes. We had to play tug of war with the rope to straighten it. It was a draw.

We went to school. I had to wear a dunce's hat. Only me and Zill got playtime because we were the only people who remembered a rhyme.

We saw the house of the assayer who experimented on the rocks. We also saw a demonstration and saw lots of different stones like fools gold. We held a copper bar. It was very heavy.

We rode in a horse and cart. The horse's name is Prince. He is 6 years old and us an English Shire Horse. We also saw a man making horse shoes, a cooperage where they made barrels and a miner's cottage. I thought in my head how could people live like that.

We tried on some clothes from the Victorian times. Then we went to the Edwardian farm. We saw some tables that looked like toadstools and some sheep and horses.

Then we saw the wooden ship in the Quay.

Happy 80th birthday Patrick

Pirates of ...

We went for dinner in Penzance in a restaurant called Sophia's.

I ate lemon sole and it was very yummy. We then had a pudding called Eton Mess which was strawberries, meringue and cream.

We sat next to the man who won Strictly Come Dancing and he chatted to us. He was nice.

Praa Sands

YouTube Video

We played beach volleyball, football, dug sand, splashed in the waves and collected shells and MORE stones!

Thank you Barry

We went to the national seal sanctuary yesterday. They puck up injured seals and look after them and then they put them back in the wild if they are well enough.

We saw a seal called Ray who lived at the centre because he has brain damage. He was my favourite. Zilly liked a little seal who was going to go back in the wild called Pumpkin. Mummy liked this one - she cannot remember her name but thinks she is going to be 40 this year - like Dad.

We saw the animals being fed - seals, sealions and penguins. We also saw the hermit crabs and starfish. I held them. Then I played in the play area with Cosmic and made a badge with a crab on it.

We came to the centre because Barry gave us some tickets. Mum said Barry is God. So here is us thanking God - other people in the park joined in too - it was very funny.

Things

We went to Widemouth Bay after our cream tea lunch. Cosi and I collected stones and shells - 'things'. It was good fun.

YouTube Video

We saw millions of jellyfish. I tried to pick one up because it was a stone. But it was all jelly and gooey.

We built castles and stone towers.

Cosmic chased the waves ...

YouTube Video

And dad buried cosmic in the sand and Mum buried zilly.
Sand went in my cast!

We went to look at Bude but went home for dinner because Zilly had a meltdown. I think she was tired. We had takeaway fish and chips instead and skyped Cat to say happy birthday.

Cat's 30 again

This time with Mum ...

Engine power

We got on the steam railway at Launceston and when we reached our stop engine changed ends.

On the way there we sat in an outside carriage. We sat inside on the way back.

Then we went to look around the engine exhibition. We saw cars and motorbikes and it was like Amberley where I went with school. Dad explained how a simple engine works.
